NATCHEZ — The third annual Will Shields Football Camp will take place July 7-9 with plans to bring professional athletes back to the Miss-Lou.

With intentions to focus on proper technique and skill development, the camp will feature two age groups — second through seventh graders at 9 a.m. until noon and eighth through 12th graders from 5 until 8 p.m. —at Cathedral High School.

“It’s definitely exciting to have this become a regular camp in the area,” Cathedral head coach Ron Rushing said. “It’s one of the best camps I’ve ever been involved with.”

Leading instruction at the camp will be Shields, who will be inducted into the 2015 Hall of Fame.

The camp will cost campers $68 to attend, which Rushing said was a bargain.

“I think $68 is worth just being around a hall of famer,” Rushing said.

All campers in attendance will be tested on vertical jump, long jump, pro-agility, 60-yard dash and 40-yard dash.

Rushing hopes all coaches in the area will participate in the event.

When registering for a camp, click on the “I am registering for a camp” tab and choose the appropriate camp and age level in the drop menu.

Rushing said the more who signup, the more likely Shields is to bring a bigger staff.

“If 60 sign up, he’ll probably bring the guys with him that he works with, but if 150 sign up, he might bring some professional athletes,” Rushing said. “So it’s important to show interest in the camp.”
