NATCHEZ — One man suffered a gunshot wound Sunday night at approximately 9 p.m. on Dumas Drive in Natchez.

The victim, Terrance Brown, age unknown, who witnesses said was shot in the head, was taken to Merit Health Natchez emergency room by the personal vehicle of someone at the scene.

Natchez Police Detective Jerry Ford said at press time he had no information about Brown’s condition.

The suspect in the shooting, who Ford identified as Archie Doss, fled the scene on foot. However, about a half an hour later, police took Doss into custody after he was found about a block away on Watts Avenue, allegedly being assaulted by a group of residents there.

Police quickly removed Doss from the scene and took him to the Natchez Police Department, where they summoned an ambulance to assess his condition. No update on Doss’s condition was available at press time.

“We are still working on this. Investigators are still out interviewing witnesses and the suspect,” Ford said. “I don’t know the circumstances of the shooting.”
