GLOSTER — A Baton Rouge man allegedly robbed the Gloster branch of United Mississippi Bank Friday morning.

The man, Roger Dale White Jr., was apprehended a short time later, thanks to bloodhounds from the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, La.

At approximately 9:13 a.m. Friday, White Jr. allegedly walked into the United Mississippi Bank branch while armed and demanded an unknown amount of cash.

“He went to a teller, made a threatening statement, and demanded money,” said Adrian Sandel, UMB’s chief financial officer.

The bank teller and staff followed protocol, Sandel said, and handed White, 47, the money.

Upon White’s exit, which occurred approximately one minute after he entered the bank, a staff member called local law enforcement.

The Amite County Sheriff’s Department, Gloster Police Department and Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to the scene — along with a few bloodhounds from the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola.

Not far from the bank, Sandel said the dogs picked up White’s scent and found him hiding in a nearby wooded area.

He was immediately arrested by Amite County law enforcement.

All stolen money has since been recovered to the bank, and no one was injured in the incident.

White is currently being held at the Amite County Jail on a charge of armed robbery.
