ALEXANDER, Ark. — Services for Joseph Douglas Wilson, 89, of Lake Palestine, Texas, who died peacefully in his sleep Saturday afternoon, July 18, 2015, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Griffin Leggett Forest Hills Chapel in Alexander, Ark.

A rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. prior to the funeral services.

Burial will follow at the Wilson Family Plot in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of Griffin Leggett Forest Hill Funeral Home.

Mr. Wilson was born Feb. 9, 1926, the son of William Joseph Wilson and Rosa Love White of Ferriday.

He was a 1949 graduate of Louisiana State University.

Mr. Wilson was employed by Humble Oil (Exxon) and then owned and operated a number of nursing homes throughout Arkansas with his brothers.

Joe loved golf, hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling and socializing with family and friends. He was dedicated to family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Audrey Sandel “Lulu”; his parents; three brothers, Floyd Eugene, William Steven and Perry Andrew; his eldest son, Joseph Douglas Wilson Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Laurie Varice Jones Wilson.

Survivors include four children, Walter Richard Wilson and wife, Toni, of Tyler, Texas, Deborah Ann Wilson McNeill and Marie Elizabeth Wilson, both of Tiki Island, Texas, and William Lloyd Wilson of Bryant, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Scott Allen Barrett of Austin, Texas, Jarrod Langston Barrett, Walter Kyle Wilson and Kelsey Kathleen Wilson, all of Tyler, Texas, Mary Christine Hining of Benton, Ark., Ira Jonathan Wood and wife, Erica, of Katy, Texas, and William Joseph Arteak Wilson of Jonesboro, Ark.; one great-grandchild, Connor Andrew Smith of Benton; and two sisters, Mary Christine Dick and husband, Keller, and Frances Virginia Boyd.
