Six people are vying for two nice, good-paying government jobs in next month’s primary election while one incumbent wants to keep his office.

The retirement of Adams County Chancery Court Clerk Tommy O’Beirne left his position — one that usually pays more than $100,000 annually — up for grabs.

Four people have thrown their hats in the ring hoping you will put an X in the box next to their names on Aug. 4.

At the opposite end of the Adams County Courthouse, the current occupant of the office of Adams County Circuit Court Clerk is hoping voters allow him to stay, while two challengers are enviously eying the office.

Both of these positions are extremely important. Both handle a great deal of public money and are entrusted with a great deal of public responsibility.

Today our election coverage focuses on these candidates and asks them a series of questions. Their answers, we hope, may help you become a better, more-informed voter.

When we head to the polls in a little more than a week, we hope and pray voters do not simply choose a familiar face or randomly choose a person for whom to vote.

Get informed, ask questions and read up on the candidates. A well-informed voter is a powerful voter; an ignorant voter is simply dangerous.
