Entergy gives Alcorn State grant for science outreach

LORMAN— Entergy Mississippi has given the Saturday Science Academy  (SSA) at Alcorn State University  received a $5,000  grant.

The grant, via Traceway Community Development of Port Gibson, will be used to ensure adequate material and supplies for hands-on-learning activities in the classrooms as well as activities outside the classroom.  SSA has received an award for four consecutive years.

SSA which will begin its 18th year on ASU’s campus this fall. The program receives its major funding through Alcorn’s Outreach Program—Title III. The program also receives support from parents, a number of volunteers, and from other benefactors mostly as in-kind.

More than 2000 students have benefitted directly from the SSA program with more than three times that number receiving residual benefit.
