NATCHEZ — — Natchez Fire Department crews responded to an unusual call this morning – a greasy road.

NFD Captain Joe Garrity said what appeared to be used cooking oil ended up on the surface of Seargent S. Prentiss Drive near the intersection with John R. Junkin Drive.

Garrity said he did not know how the oil got on the road, but speculated a truck carrying used cooking oil might have been leaking.

“It was called in by a passing motorist when they noticed it was slick,” Garrity said.

Garrity said the oil was spread out for a few hundred yards and was never a major hazard.

Road maintenance crews placed sand over the area to prevent any potential problems.
