BAKER, La. — Even with some of its players not in the lineup for various reasons, the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels got big-time contributions from those who were in a 12-2 season-opening win over the Central Private School Lady Rebels in five innings Monday afternoon.

Ashleigh Williams had a solid outing on the mound for ACCS. She went all five innings and gave up two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks. She helped her own cause by going 2-for-3 with a run-scoring triple.

Makenzie Landers stepped up for the visiting Lady Rebels by going 3-for-4 with a triple Shelby Mason went 2-for-4 with a double.

“We have a couple of girls who are at that (Senior League) World Series, Lexie Emanuel and Anna McDaniel. Brianna Henson is at the Dixie Debs World Series. And we have a couple of girls who are still on vacation,” ACCS assistant coach Leigh Anne Mason said.

Mason said that she and head coach Rick Fife had to do put several players at different positions in the field that they are not accustomed to being at.

“We had infielders playing in the outfield. Catchers playing in the infielder. Infielders catching,” Mason said.

ACCS jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of the first inning, which was highlighted by Harley Martin’s bases-clearing triple. Central Private scored one run each in the bottom of the second and third innings before ACCS put the game away with four runs in the top of the fourth and put the 10-run-after-five-innings mercy rule in effect with two runs in the top of the fifth for a 12-2 lead.

In the top of the fourth, Mason doubled and scored on Williams’ RBI triple.

Williams made sure the game would end early as she retired the side without allowing any runs to score in the bottom of the fifth.

“The first pitcher they put in, we hit her pretty good. We batted 11 batters in the first inning. The next pitcher, we didn’t get to her until the fourth. We executed the bunt well a couple of times,” Mason said.

ACCS (1-0) plays again at 5 p.m. today at Tensas Academy.
