Four face drug charges in Ridgecrest

RIDGECREST — Four people were arrested in Ridgecrest this week after narcotics officers reportedly found them in possession of more than 50 bags of drugs packaged for distribution.

According to a Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office spokesman, deputies were serving a search warrant at 102 Woodmont Drive in Ridgecrest when they allegedly found Daniel Atkins, 27, 100 Woodmont Ave., attempting to flush bags of drugs down a toilet.

Three other adults and two children were also in the residence.

During the search, deputies reportedly seized 51 one-gram bags of synthetic marijuana, two bags of hydroponic marijuana, two grams of methamphetamine, a marijuana cigar, one bag of marijuana and a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

Atkins was charged with two counts possession of schedule I substance with intent to distribute, possession of schedule II with intent, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying of weapons with controlled substance, two counts improper supervision of a minor, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, obstruction of justice and possession of schedule IV substance.

The other three adults in the house — Melanie Loyd, 33, 100 Woodmont Ave.; Veronica Dixon, 45, 102 Woodmont Ave. and Cedrick Skipper, 40, 27725 Louisiana 15, Ferriday — were charged with two counts possession of schedule I substance with intent to distribute, possession of schedule II with intent, possession of drug paraphernalia, carrying of weapons with controlled substance and two counts improper supervision of a minor.

Skipper was also charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

According to the spokesman, further charges, including distribution of controlled substances, may follow.
