NATCHEZ — Brianna Henson pitched a complete-game two-hitter, and the defense behind her had its best performance of the season as the Adams County Christian School Lady Rebels defeated the Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars 7-0 Monday afternoon in an MAIS District 4-AAA game.

Even though Henson didn’t strike out many batters, she forced Brookhaven Academy to hit into several groundouts. Henson struck out three batters and walked only two batters. For the first time this season, the Lady Rebels did not commit a single error.

“I think that was the difference in the game. The girls played relaxed today,” ACCS head coach Rick Fife said. “We played good defense. Brianna pitched a good game. She threw a lot of ground balls. We hustled to the ball.”

ACCS scored one run in the bottom of the first inning and two in the bottom of the second for a 3-0 lead. Fife said that the team’s first run of the game allowed Henson to take control.

Henson and Ashleigh Williams each went 1-for-2 while Lexie Emanuel, Anna McDaniel and Savanna Spear were each 1-for-3 and Mackenzie Landers was 1-for-4.

“It was good to see a lot of batters get in the hitting category,” Fife said. “We took a lot of walks tonight. That set the table. We played small ball in the first inning. We played relaxed the rest of the way.”

The Lady Rebels tacked on one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and three runs in the bottom of the fifth to put away the Lady Cougars.
