NATCHEZ — Another week, another big opponent rolls into Natchez to take on Trinity Episcopal Day School. This Friday, the Copiah Academy Colonels, an MAIS AAAA school, will take a shot at the Saints.

Trinity is coming off a big 55-22 win against another MAIS AAAA school, University Academy, and assistant coach Chris Bunio said the team is feeling confident heading into Friday’s game.

“The University game was a big confidence boost and it shows we’ve made improvements and can play with bigger schools,” Bunio said. “We have just as much chance of winning against Copiah as we did against University.”

Bunio said the Colonels will, like Trinity’s other opponents, bring in a big, physical team.

“They are big up front and good on both sides of the ball,” Bunio said. “Their quarterback likes to throw the deep ball, but they have two good running backs that can get four yards a carry. That is what they rely on. They wear down opponents.”

After suffering an injury in Week 1 against Silliman Institute, Cade Wells is expected to make his return to the field for Trinity.

“Cade has improved tremendously,” Bunio said. “He should be good to go. He’s been running around and been on the bike a bit.”

Wells was the team’s leading tackler last season and also had a big game against Silliman before the injury.

Trinity and Copiah are slated for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Natchez.
