NATCHEZ — Another week, another victory for Adams County Christian School.

The (4-0) Rebels continue to put together complete performances, this time against Wilkinson County Christian Academy in a shutout 34-0 victory Friday night.

The Rebels got on the board in the first quarter after Sam Butler intercepted WCCA quarterback Phillip Cutrer to set up a two-yard touchdown rush by Chisum Mardis.

The Rebels struck again in the second quarter when Carlos Woods connected with George Scott for a 63-yard score, entering halftime with a 13-0 lead.

“WCCA played tough,” ACCS assistant coach Bill James said. “They’re much improved from last year, and we gave up some yards to them. But when it mattered, our defense shut them down.”

Despite not being able to produce points, WCCA running back Kyle Folds rushed 19 times for 73 yards. Kevin Folds added 40 yards on four rushes.

Cutrer completed 4-of-10 passes, all to Hutch Holden, who had 61 receiving yards.

However, the big plays were produced by ACCS. Mardis scored again in the third quarter before Jordan Wells gave ACCS a 27-0 lead heading into the fourth.

“That was a real nice run by Jordan,” James said. “It went for 25 or 30 yards.”

Chris Smotherman scored the final touchdown, catching a Woods pass and going 40 yards for the score.

ACCS nearly doubled WCCA’s total offense, outgaining the Rams 395 to 207. Woods passed for 244 yards, while the Rebels rushed for 151 yards by committee.

“We made some mistakes in this one,” James said. “And we have a lot of stuff to work on. It’s nice to get the win, but we have much bigger goals in mind. And we need to get better.”
