VIDALIA — With a 41-7 victory against Bolton, the Vidalia Vikings (2-2, 1-0) have already won more district games than the team did a year ago.

“It is great to get a win,” Vidalia head coach Jeff Hancock said. “It is all part of the process. I am happy, and I thought this was a team we should have beaten. Our kids are getting better, a little more consistent. We are still young.”

Julian Wilson led the way for Vidalia racking up 273 rushing yards and more than 300 all-purpose yards.

“He had another big game,” Hancock said. “He makes some runs at times where you know he could be a special running back if he keeps working hard. When you run the zone, it is tough for the running back because you have to be patient. Last year was a growing year for him.”

Hancock said a big reason for the Vikings’ success was the play from the offensive line.

“I told them we were going to establish the run tonight,” he said. “We have a strong bunch of kids, and once they figure out they are strong ,they can be good.”

Tristan Weatherly, who was coming off a tough game against Ferriday, also turned in a solid performance.

“He looked much better tonight,” Hancock said. “We didn’t throw as much, but he had a passing touchdown to Josh Pace and no turnovers.”

Next up for Vidalia is a district clash with Avoyelles, and Hancock said his team is ready for the challenge.

“They were excited and fired up tonight,” Hancock said. “We are 1-0 in district and now our goal is to be 2-0.”
