FHS’ Woods to return to General Trass

FERRIDAY — To come out against General Trass without committing one single penalty would be a dream come true for the Ferriday Trojans.

With a 3-3 record (0-1 in district play), the Trojans have committed one penalty after another to contribute to losing three straight ballgames.

“Really, we’ve been our own worst enemy,” Ferriday head coach Dwight Woods said. “It looks like those penalties come at the most opportune time, right after we get something going or make a big play.”

The matchup against General Trass marks the first time Woods will return to the school he last coached, generating hype around Friday’s game. However, Woods is downplaying his return to General Trass.

“To me, it’s just a regular game,” Woods said. “It’s not a big deal. It’s a district game. It’s one we need to win, especially after we dropped the last one.”

Ferriday enters the matchup favored against an 0-6 General Trass team. But quarterback Bradrick Clemens and running back Carlos Mosby have Woods full-undivided attention.

“They are as good as anybody in the district,” Woods said. “Clemens was an all-district receiver last year, but because a kid didn’t play for them this year, he had to play quarterback.”

Ferriday might be without starting receiver T.J. Swanson, who suffered a blow to the head in the loss against Rayville.

“He’s going through the concussion protocol now,” Woods said. “We’ve got a few guys banged up, but we should be OK this week.”

Ferriday will travel to play General Trass Friday at 7 p.m.
