LENA, La. — Tae Curry had 12 carries for 174 yards and three touchdowns as well as an interception on defense as the Block Bears won their second straight game after trouncing the Northwood-Lena Gators 38-10 Friday night in an LHSAA District 3-1A game.

Not only was Block interim head coach Bo Sproles pleased with the team’s rushing attack, he was thrilled with how the defense and special teams performed.

“Overall, the defense played lights out. Both of their scores came on our JV team,” Sprles said. “We ran the ball really well. Tae had a good game. We had good runs by Jacob Duncan. Aaron Bell ran the ball hard. We scored on special teams. All three aspects of the game played good.”

Block jumped out to a 23-0 lead by the end of the first quarter and Northwood-Lena (1-6, 0-2) was not able to mount a comeback bid.

The only thing Sproles was not too pleased with was that his team was penalized 14 times for 90 yards. He also felt like at least a few of those penalties should not have been called.

“Unnecessary penalties that cost us two touchdowns. Bad calls,” Sproles said.

With the Bears’ running game racking up 285 yards, Zorian Bowie did not have to throw the ball very much. He went 1-for-5 passing for 30 yards. That completion went to A.J. Barber.

Jermaine Miller blocked a punt and recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown. Duncan finished with 50 yards on just five carries while Bell had 34 yards rushing on three carries. On defense, Duncan intercepted two passes.

“The first team did really well tonight,” Sproles said. Jayden Ivey-Sproles, the coach’s son, as well as Curry had five solo tackles each. K.J. Jones made all three of his extra points and had three tackles for loss.

Block (2-5, 2-0) plays host to Montgomery next Friday at 7 p.m.
