JONESVILLE — The amazing turnaround season for Block High School under interim head coach Bo Sproles continued Friday night as the Bears defeated the Montgomery High School Tigers 28-6 to remain undefeated in LHSAA District 3-1A.

Zorian Bowie had eight carries for 100 yards, including a 60-yard touchdown run, and completed four of five passes for 42 yards. Aaron Bell had 15 carries for 89 yards while Jacob Duncan added 72 yards on 12 carries.

“I’m a proud coach and a proud dad,” Sproles said. “I’m proud of my guys. They’re getting better. They put up with me. We try to put in a new play or two each game. We try to add a new wrinkle or two on defense.”

Sproles added that his two quarterbacks, Bowie and Duncan, ran the ball hard throughout the game.

“Bowie ran extremely good. Jacob is more of a well-rounded quarterback. But I can’t keep him under center. Zorian’s our starter,” Sproles said. “He’s more of a scat back. It’s fun coaching these guys.”

Block jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter before Montgomery got on the board in the second quarter and was only down 12-6 at halftime. It could have been worse than that, but Sproles said at halftime that a couple of touchdowns were called back because of penalties.

However, the Bears kept the Tigers at bay with two second-half touchdowns, each of which was followed by a two-point conversion.

“I’m very, very proud. I’m very pleased. I’m happy to be coaching at the school where I first coached at and that’s Block High School,” Sproles said.

Defensively, Duncan, A.J. Barber and Davontae Curry each had an interception. Keon Wilkerson had four solo tackles and nine assists. Jayden Ivey-Sproles had eight total tackles.

Block (3-5, 3-0) plays host to Logansport next Friday at 7 p.m. in a pivotal district game for both teams.
