Help with oral history project

Published 12:48 am Sunday, November 1, 2015

My name is Dr. James Adams and I am an Associate Professor at Mississippi State University.

We are now in the final study of an Oral History/Research project on the desegregation of schools in Mississippi in the years from 1963-1971.

I have interviewed over 90 black and white administrators, teachers and coaches, staff, activists, students, parents, and others involved from this period in order to illustrate and document this extremely important time in Mississippi history and the “real work” that went on in the schools that made it happen.

We are now under a book contract with University Press of Mississippi and I will be collecting more interviews for approximately six more months. If you, or you know anyone who has an interest or was an active participant during this time please contact me or have then email me at Jha17@msstate.edu or give me a call me at 205-242-7085.

My hope is that all who wish to participate will be able. I travel several times a week across the state so I will be in your area soon.

At the request of Mississippi State University, all of the interviews will be donated to the Mitchell Memorial Library so researchers and future generations will be able to experience this time from the actual words and voices of the people who were there and made it happen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
