Vidalia wraps up season vs. Peabody

ALEXANDRIA, La. — Despite not having played Peabody before, Vidalia head coach Jeff Hancock is fairly familiar with what the Warhorses will be bringing to the field tonight.

“(Coach Cleothis Cummings) is the offensive coordinator there, and I know him well and (head coach) Benny (Vault) I know,” Hancock said.

The game, originally scheduled for Friday, was moved up to tonight due to expected bad weather, but the change hasn’t bothered Hancock.

“Earlier in the year you need that extra day, but by week 10, that won’t really matter,” he said. “Thursday’s were just a walk through, recovery day for us.”

Hancock said the Vikings will see a variety of things from Peabody offensively, and will have to be prepared to defend just about anything.

“They run the double-wing and spread it out,” Hancock said. “It is the two opposite ends of the spectrum, and they have lots of athletes that can do it well.”

On the flip side, Hancock expects the Warhorses to bring pressure all night.

“They are going to blitz us,” he said. “They run a 4-4 and stand up their defensive ends trying to confuse you in terms of protection and blocking schemes. We have to make sure we are up on how to block it up.”

The game will wrap up Vidalia’s season, and Hancock said it is imperative the Vikings end things on a high note.

“The last game is always important because it is setting the tone for the offseason,” he said. “Last Friday was a turning point for us. A lot of things came to life as far as us playing together and we had some younger guys realizing they are going to be pretty good.”

The Vikings and Warhorses are scheduled for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
