NATCHEZ — Thirteen employees of Merit Health Natchez will lose their jobs this week as the hospital completes its consolidation of the former Natchez Regional Medical Center and Natchez Community Hospital campuses.

The Community campus is scheduled to close today, and the last of the inpatients there were moved to Merit Health Natchez Tuesday.

The hospital announced Tuesday in a news release the employees impacted include workers in administrative roles, dietary personnel employed by the kitchen service and environmental services employees.

All of the employees can apply for re-hiring if the positions for which they qualify open again, the hospital’s spokesman said, adding the hospital has been working with the WIN Job Center to provide employment assistance.

“Natchez WIN Job Center is hosting personalized sessions for these individuals so they can access placement services like interview coaching, resume building and other resources to help them through this transition,” said Daniel Purvis, branch director of the Natchez WIN Job Center. “We are hopeful that we will be able to connect most or all of them with new jobs in Natchez or nearby.”

The hospital’s spokesman said the hospital has worked to minimize job loss through a combination of strategic staffing and attrition.

While some jobs were cut, the hospital is still hiring for other clinical and non-clinical positions.
