Ferriday, Vidalia, Cathedral boys win

FERRIDAY — Ronald Davis scored 17 points and Dantriez Scott added 14 points to lead five Ferriday High School players in double figures as the Trojans held on for a 73-66 win over the Block High School Bears Tuesday night.

A wild first quarter ended with Ferriday leading Block 20-19, but the Bears turned the tables in the second quarter and outscored the Trojans 15-9 for a surprising 34-29 halftime advantage.

The third quarter was the turning point of this game for both teams. Ferriday hardly missed from the field while Block had a hard time getting shots to fall. The result was a 21-5 edge for the Trojans and a 50-39 lead.

Both teams put up a lot of points in the fourth quarter, which was not good news for Block. The Bears could only manage to outscore Ferriday 27-23.

Jer’Lyric Brooks, Jashon Foster and Ronald Williams each had 11 points for the Trojans. The Bears were led by A.J. Barber with a game-high 22 points and Kendarrious Jones chipped in with 16 points.

Block next plays at home against Delta Charter School at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday Ferriday (5-1) plays host to Sicily Island at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Cathedral 60,

Laurel Christian School 29

LAUREL — Jardarius Anderson and Derrion Batieste led a balanced scoring attack for Cathedral with 12 points each as the Green Wave beat the Laurel Christian School Lions 60-29 in MAIS District 4-AAA action Tuesday night.

Cathedral jumped out to a 17-6 lead after one quarter of play and never looked back from there. The Green Wave put the game away with a decisive 19-8 advantage in the third quarter for a 43-16 lead.

D.J. Batteste poured in 10 points, Connor Mire had seven points, and James Coley and Ty Tobias added six points each for the Green Wave.

Cathedral (6-2, 2-0) next plays at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when its hosts District 4-AAA rival Adams County Christian School.

Vidalia 64, Madison Parish 58 (OT)

VIDALIA — Malike Jefferson and Curtis McNulty led Vidalia High School with 17 points each as the Vikings overcame a rough fourth quarter to escape with a 64-587 win over the Madison Parish Jaguars Tuesday night.

Trailing 18-14 after one quarter of play, Vidalia clamped down on defense over the next two quarters to took a 40-31 lead. But Madison Parish responded big time in the fourth quarter as the Jaguars outscored the Vikings 22-13 to force overtime.

Vidalia did not panic and once again their defense rose to the occasion. The Vikings scored 11 points in the extra session while the Jaguars managed just five points. Demarco Brown chipped in for the Vikings with 15 points

Vidalia (3-5) doesn’t play again until late next week – Dec. 16-19, to be more specific – at the Madison Parish Tournament.

Trinity Episcopal 55, Silliman Institute 49

CLINTON, La. — Kevontaye Caston led Trinity Episcopal with 20 points and David Jackson added 15 points as the Saints held on for a 55-49 win over the Silliman Institute Wildcats Tuesday night.

Trinity Episcopal led Silliman 17-12 at the end of the first quarter and slowly built its lead in each of the next two quarters. The Saints led the Wildcats 46-36 at the end of the third quarter before Silliman outscored Trinity 13-9 in the fourth quarter.

The 4-1 Saints next play on Monday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at home against Oak Forest Academy.

Jefferson County 74, Crystal Springs 72

FAYETTE — Christian Day led all scorers with 37 points and Akeem Williams had 22 points as the Jefferson County Tigers needed a fourth-quarter rally to defeat the Crystal Springs Tigers 74-72 Tuesday night.

Jefferson County appeared to be in control after grabbing a 24-15 lead after one quarter of play. But Crystal Springs had other ideas as it outscored the host Tigers 19-11 in the second quarter and 20-14 in the third quarter for a 54-49 lead.

However, the visiting Tigers had the tales turned on them as they were outscored by Jefferson County 25-18 in the fourth quarter. Josh Day added 12 points for the home team.

Jefferson County (4-3) hosts Natchez High School at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
