Krewe announces royalty for upcoming Mardi Gras festivities

The Krewe of Heart & Soul recently announced its royalty for the 2016 Mardi Gras season.

The krewe was established in 2013 by five founders: Robert L. Gardner Jr., Felicia Bowman, Tera Williams Harris, Christy Bowman and Jeremy Fakes.

The krewe’s grand ball will be at 8 p.m., Saturday at the Natchez Convention Center.

The royalty are:

Queen Shandria Lynett Hueing

Shandria Hueing is the daughter of David and Sherry Hueing of Ridgecrest. She is the sister of David R. Hueing and Bridgette Williams. Hueing was born in Natchez but raised in Vidalia. She is the proud mother of one son, 8-year-old Marc Perkins Jr.

She graduated from Vidalia High School in 1997. In 2002, Hueing received her bachelor’s degree in social work from Northwestern State University in Natchitoces, La. She later received her master’s degree in social work from Louisiana State University in 2013.

She is employed by Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services. She is the child welfare supervisor for the Catahoula/LaSalle Parish Child Welfare Office in Jonesville. Hueing has been employed with the agency for 11 years where she has worked or received training in all programs offered by the child welfare department. She is a certified social worker for the state of Louisiana.

Hueing is a member of the Order of Eastern Star Rosewood Chapter No. 65 of Vidalia, Louisiana Social Service Supervisors Association and the National Association of Social Workers.

She enjoys helping others, being with family and attending sporting events.

King John Prosser

John Prosser is the son of Valeria Prosser and John Franklin. He is the brother of Treniece Conner and Kenneth Prosser.

He graduated with honors from Ferriday High School where he excelled in academics and enjoyed being a part of the mighty Ferriday High Trojan Band.

Prosser is currently a member of the U.S. Army National Guard, where has been active for almost 11 years. He has also been working the offshore industry for seven years.

Between his military and offshore careers, Prosser is the proud father of his only child John Prosser Jr.

He is a member of the Harvest Baptist Church in Ferriday. He’s a masonic brother of Ferriday Lodge 101.

Traveling, poetry or just enjoying a drink with friends are just a few of Prosser’s hobbies, but spending time with his family is what he enjoys above all.

Duchess LaTasha Moore

LaTasha Moore is the daughter of Sheryl and Lonnie Moore.

She is a graduate of Vidalia High School. LaTasha has five children, DeMarco, Jamya, Jayden, Elton and Elmari.

Moore is an assistant manager for Family Dollar and a member of Young Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Moore is currently enrolled in Walden University where she is pursuing a degree in criminal justice.

Moore loves shopping, helping out in her neighborhood, cooking, spending time with her children, traveling and spending time with family.

Duchess Bobbie ReNell Gordon

Duchess Bobbie ReNell Gordon graduated from North Natchez High School in 1981. She graduated from Hinds Community College in 1994 with an associate in applied science degree where she was on the dean’s list both years. In 1996, she graduated with a general secondary education degree and received her 18 related hours in early childhood education from Alcorn State University.

Gordon is a teacher at Thompson Head Start where she has been employed for 27 years.

She has two children, Kimberly LaShea Gordon Bell and Earl Lee Gordon Jr.; three grandchildren, Ariyanna Bell, Markell Bell Jr. and Imani Gordon; five godchildren, Keisha Green, LaRoy Merrick, DaMorris Merrick, Oronde Watkins and Miracle Watkins.

Gordon’s hobbies are teaching, dancing, singing, watching television, shopping and spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends. Gordon is a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

Gordon’s motto is “Are you living or just existing?” and “Live life to the fullest.”

Last but not least, Gordon bleeds purple and gold.

Duchess Regina Harris

Regina Harris is a native of Natchez. She currently resides in Ferriday. She is the daughter of Leonard Wallace and the late Olegrette Wallace. She is the proud mother of nine daughters, Samantha, Jessica, April, Sirena, Nesha, Lakeshanna, Olivis, Shakayla and Tifani. Harris has four grandchildren, Vicktoria, Chloe, Colby and Casey.

Harris is a 1980 graduate of South Natchez-Adams High School. She is also a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community College. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for many years until she retired.

Harris is a member of St. Mark Baptist Church of Clayton, where she serves as an usher. She has been a member of the Ferriday High School Band Booster Club for 17 years and serves as the treasurer. She is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Deborah Chapter 5, under Adah Grand Chapter.

She is a foster parent and received the Foster Parent of the Year award for 2015 for the Alexandria, La., region. Harris has fostered more than 50 children during her course of being a foster parent.

Harris enjoys shopping, sport events and traveling. She also enjoys supporting her children in all activities and endeavors they might participate in, whether it may be sports, band, theatre or dance. Harris’ motto is “There is always room for one more.”

Duchess LaTasha Frye

LaTasha Frye is the daughter of the late Rev. John A. Frye and Lillie Queen McClinton. She is the middle child of three children.

She is a 1994 graduate of Jefferson County High School in Fayette. She attended Alcorn State University where she majored in health science and received her bachelor of science degree in 1998.

Frye is the mother of two daughters, Jaharah S. Frye and Asia M. Frye.

Frye is a member of Pilgrim Baptist Church and Victory Chapter No. 4 order of Eastern Star. She is employed with the Wilkinson County Correctional Facility where she is a dental hygienist. Her hobbies include, but are not limited to, spending time with her girls, reading, traveling and shopping.

Her life motto is “With God, all things are possible.”

Duke Roger Allen

Roger Allen was born and reared in Jonesville. He is the son of Mrs. Oleavy Allen and the late Henry Allen. He is married to Debra L. Allen. Allen is the father of seven children, Roderick, LaVonta, Timothy, Reginald, Roger, Sharelle and Deshana. Allen is also the godfather to Erin Jackson, Erica Singleton, Akeyoh Shannon and Jamiyah Curtis

Allen joined the U.S. Army in 1977 where he served as a truck driver instructor and a squad leader for three years. He later joined the Louisiana National Guard and served 18 years. While serving in the National Guard, he was deployed to Operation Desert Storm from 1990 to 1991. He retired from the Army with 21 years of service.

Currently, Allen is employed by Stine Lumber Company in Natchez. He is also a member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, Enoch Lodge No. 18 and Lucinda Robinson No. 6 Order of Eastern Star where he serves as patron.

Allen enjoys spending time with his lovely wife, family, fishing, traveling and listening to music.

Duke Robert L. Gardner Jr.

Robert L. Gardner Jr. is the son of Robert Gardner of Gulfport and Sheila Gardner of Vidalia. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, the late Roosevelt Bowman and Shirley Trust Bowman of Vidalia.

He is a graduate of Vidalia High School. Gardner attended Grambling State University, but is presently finishing up his business degree at Alcorn State University.

Gardner worked for Concordia Parish School System for five years as a paraprofessional. Gardner also worked as a banker for over five years.

He is employed by the Magnolia Bluffs Casino as a cage supervisor.

Gardner is a member of the Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He loves to sing within his community. He is a member of Ferriday Lodge No. 101. Gardner is also a member of Abraham Consisory (32 Degree) of Boyce, La.

Gardner loves to cook and play cards with family and friends. He is the President and Founder of Krewe of Heart & Soul. Robert’s future goal is to one day hold a political position in his community, so he can help his community.

Duchess Myesha Vinson

Myesha Vinson is a Tensas Parish native born to Particia Vinson and the late Robert E. Scott.

Vinson attended her early years of education at Lisborn Elementary School in Waterproof. She then attended Waterproof High School, but because of the consolidation of schools, she graduated in 2000 from Davidson High School in St. Joseph.

Duchess Myesha Vinson

Myesha Vinson is a Tensas Parish native born to Particia Vinson and the late Robert E. Scott.

Vinson attended her early years of education at Lisborn Elementary School in Waterproof. She then attended Waterproof High School, but because of the consolidation of schools, she graduated in 2000 from Davidson High School in St. Joseph.

At Davidson High School, she was a member of the honor society, peer leadership group and played point guard on the basketball team that led Davidson to their first ever women’s state championship basketball tournament. She also graduated as valedictorian of her graduating class.

Vinson went on to attend what was then Northeast Louisiana University which is now University of Louisiana at Monroe in Monroe, La., where she obtained her associated degree in health and allied science. She is now an employee of Family Medicine Associates of Natchez.

Vinson attends the Springfield Missionary Baptist Church where she is one of the directors for the youth department and a member of the choir. She is also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star Esther Grand Chapter Crescent Chapter No. 142 of Waterproof and her heroines of Jericho Fidelity Court No. 20 Vidalia.

She values family and cherishes every waking moment spent with them. Her leisure includes traveling and spending anyone else’s money but her own.

Duchess Sharamee Skipper

Sharamee Sharteese Skipper is the daughter of Clarence and Kimelar Skipper. She is a native of Clayton. She currently resides in Ferriday.

Skipper is a 2006 special honor graduate of Ferriday High School. She received her degree with a concentration in biology from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 2010. Skipper then went on to obtain her practical nursing degree from Central Louisiana Technical and Community College in 2012.

Skipper is currently employed by Magnolia Village Assisted Living and Certified Dementia Unit in Natchez.

She enjoys being a positive role model and very active in her church and community. Skipper is an active member at The Harvest Baptist Church of Ferriday under the Rev. Charles G. Chandler Sr. She is involved in numerous ministries and youth outreach.

Skipper is the assistant auxiliary coach for the Ferriday High School marching band under the direction of Bobby Key and Auxiliary Sponsor Karremiah Johnson. She volunteers and helps sponsor the Ferriday High School Ladies of Gold dance line.

She is a member of Crescent Chapter No. 142 of The Order of Eastern Star Organization of Waterproof, LA and a member of Fidelity Court No. 20 of The Heroines of Jericho of Vidalia.

Skipper enjoys the fellowship and activities surrounding the Krewe of Heart & Soul.

Duke Jeremy Fakes

Jeremy Fakes is the son of Irma Fakes and the Late Henry “Pot” Woods. He is also the grandson of the late Annie Mae Christmas.

Fakes graduated in 2001 from the Natchez-Adams School District. He went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Alcorn State University. He is currently enrolled at Holmes Community College as a mortuary student.

Fakes is very active in his community. He is employed with the Madison Parish School District in Tallulah, La., and also Peoples Funeral Home of Jackson. He also runs his own business, Heavenly Printing of Natchez.

Fakes is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc., NAACP, NAN, Lamba National Honors Society Minority Business, National Funeral Directors Association and Black Funeral Directors under 40. He is a member of Egypt Baptist Church where he serves as president of the choir. He also has his own quartet group called Anointed. He is also a youth mentor for young men.

Fakes favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 — “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Fakes enjoys traveling, singing, antique cars, computers, spending time with family, football and shopping.

Fakes is also a proud father.
