Clark led all scorers with 27 points while Morgan finished with 19 points, and Chatman chipped in with 10 points.

“We did really well because we made all our free throws,” Natchez coach Alphaka Moore said. “So that’s progress.”

Natchez High continued to pressure Wingfield and continued to add to its lead in the third quarter.

“Our defense did really well,” Moore said. “Everybody did well and played their roles well.”

Natchez High (11-6, 2-0) plays again at 6 p.m. Friday when it makes another trip to Jackson, this time to take on Region 6-5A rival Provine High School.

Jefferson County 54,

Port Gibson 40

JACKSON — Antrell Gales led Jefferson County with a game-high 19 points while Diamond Smith and Kailyn Hammett each had double-doubles as the Lady Tigers defeated Port Gibson 54-40 Friday night in a pivotal MHSAA Region 7-3A game for both teams.

Smith finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Hammett scored 11 points and dished out 12 assists, and Gales collected six rebounds for Jefferson County.

“We played hard on defense, and we were real patient on offense,” Lady Tigers head coach Flora McKnight said. “A win like that is good. We respect everyone and fear none.”

Jefferson County’s patience on offense paid off as it outscored Port Gibson 21-13 in the second quarter for a 29-17 halftime lead.

Jefferson County (14-3, 2-0) plays host at 6 p.m. Tuesday to Region 7-3A opponent Hazlehurst High School.

Buckeye 60, Vidalia 35

BUCKEYE, La. — With one senior out with an injury and another getting in early foul trouble, Vidalia fell into an early hole they could not dig themselves out of as it fell to Buckeye 60-35 Friday night in an LHSAA District 3-3A game.

“We were just outplayed,” Lady Vikings head coach Christen West said. “(Buckeye) came out and played four quarters. My best defender, Bri’anna Tolliver, had a knee injury, and that put a damper on things.”

Bre’Honor Harris committed two fouls in the first quarter and that gave the Lady Panthers an even bigger advantage. When that quarter was over, Buckeye had an 18-6 lead and never looked back.

Harris led Vidalia with 15 points and Jalyn Smith added 11 points. Marlee Paulk led Buckeye with a game-high 18 points, while Trinity Foster and Shelbi Ryan added 12 points apiece.

Vidalia (7-12, 1-5) hosts Peabody at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Monterey had just a one-point lead on Glenmora, 7-6, at the end of the first quarter before responding with a 10-1 advantage in the second quarter for a 17-7 halftime lead.

“They just continued to play, and they just kept working,” Lady Wolves head coach Cary Shivley said.
