Block notches win over Northwood-Lena

JONESVILLE — Block nearly blew a 13-point halftime deficit in the third quarter, but it regrouped and came away with a stunning 70-68 upset win over Northwood-Lena Tuesday night in a key LHSAA District 3-1A game.

Block entered this game with a below-.500 overall record while Northwood-Lena had a 16-4 overall record. The Bears led the Gators 38-25 at halftime.

A.J. Barber led the Bears with a game-high 31 points and Chris Holmes had 17 points.

Block (10-11, 5-2) hosts Montgomery at 7 p.m.

Monterey 38, Glenmora 34 (girls)

GLENMORA, La. — After jumping out to a double-digit halftime lead, the Monterey Lady Wolves had to hold off a fourth-quarter rally by Glenmora to defeat the Lady Wildcats 38-34 Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 5-B game.

Monterey led Glenmora 21-10 at the half and still led by 10 points, 31-21, at the end of the third quarter before the Lady Wildcats nearly caught the Lady Wolves in the fourth quarter.

Sydney Woodruff finished with a game-high 13 points and Merrideth Chapman added nine points.

Monterey (18-9, 5-1) plays Friday at Grace Christian School.

Vidalia 78, Marksville 61 (boys)

MARKSVILLE, La. — Thanks to a 30-point first quarter, the Vidalia Vikings cruised to a 78-61 road win over Marksville Tuesday night.

Malik Jefferson and Julius Wilson led four Vidalia players in double figures with 19 points apiece.

Vidalia (12-11, 7-2) plays Friday at Winnfield.

Marksville 63, Vidalia 29 (girls)

MARKSVILLE, La. — The Vidalia Lady Vikings fell to the Marksville Lady Tigers 63-29 in LHSAA District 3-3A action Tuesday night.

Angel Heckard, Jalyn Smith and Ebony Walker each scored eight points for Vidalia (no records available).

The Lady Vikings play at 6 p.m. Friday. at Winnfield.

Delta Charter 60,

Delhi Charter 18 (girls)

FERRIDAY — Cloi Cummings and Kiaci Parker combined to score 43 points to lead the Delta Charter School Lady Storm to a 60-18 win over the Delhi Charter School Lady Gators in an LHSAA District 2-1A game Thursday night.

Delta Charter had its way throughout the game and held the Lady Gators to no more than seven points in any of the four quarters.

Cummings led the Lady Storm with 23 points and Parker finished with 20 points.

The Lady Storm (8-16, 5-6) next plays at Sicily Island at 6 p.m. Friday.

Rayville 86, Ferriday 26 (girls)

RAYVILLE, La. — The Ferriday Lady Trojans got off to a rough start and never recovered as they lost to the Rayville Lady Hornets 86-26 Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 2-2A game.

Zhane Green was the only player to score in double figures for Ferriday with 13 points.

The Lady Trojans (8-14, 3-4) play Friday at Sterlington.

Block 33, Northwood-Lena 31

JONESVILLE — The Block Lady Bears got off to a good start only to have to hold on at the end as they escaped with a 33-31 win over the Northwood-Lena Lady Gators Tuesday night in LHSAA District 5-B action.

Azihay Anderson led the Lady Bears with a game-high 11 points. Block (10-11, 3-4) hosts Montgomery Friday at 6 p.m.

Delhi Charter 52,

Delta Charter 41 (boys)

FERRIDAY — Delta Charter School nearly dug itself out of an early 11-point deficit, but a strong fourth quarter by Delhi Charter School put a stop to the Storm’s comeback attempt as the Gators took a 52-41 win Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 2-1A game.

Delhi Charter jumped out to a 20-9 lead over Delta Charter at the end of the first quarter, but the Storm used a 15-6 advantage in the third to cut the 14-point deficit down to five points, 35-30.

However, Delhi Charter outscored Delta Charter 17-11 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Davern Mays led Delta Charter with 14 points. The Storm (4-19, 2-9) plays at Sicily Island Friday at 6:30 p.m.
