Madden joins The Natchez Democrat as news reporter

NATCHEZ — Natchez native Cain Madden has joined The Natchez Democrat as a general news reporter.

Madden graduated from the University of Mississippi with a degree in journalism in 2013. While at Ole Miss, he was the editor of The Daily Mississippian student newspaper. Madden also received an associate’s degree from Copiah-Lincoln Community College — Natchez Campus in 2008.

He previously worked at The Natchez Democrat as an intern in 2009 and then later as the Adams County reporter in 2010.

After graduating college, he worked at The Tidewater News in Franklin, Va., as the managing editor until 2015.

He was the recipient of first-place awards in the Virginia Press Association’s Better Newspapers Contest for Multimedia news report, feature photo and sports writing in 2015, and breaking news and photo story in 2014.

Madden also won first-place recognitions in the Mississippi Press Association’s Better Newspapers Contest for general news in 2009 and 2010.

While in college, M-Powered, the magazine Madden was the lead writer for, won the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award in 2013. Madden also won first place for news reporting in 2011 and 2012 for the Southeast Journalism Conference.

Madden has also worked as a sports stringer and photographer for The Greenville News in Greenville, S.C., and the Commercial Dispatch in Columbus.

Madden is the son of Kathy Madden, the grandson of Dorothy Thompson and the nephew of Kenny Cavin and Don Cavin.
