Block holds on for win

LOGANSPORT, La. — Block High School had a double-digit lead at the end of the third quarter, but had to hold off a furious fourth-quarter rally by Logansport High School to defeat the Tigers 55-52 Tuesday night in an LHSAA District 3-1A game.

Block got off to a slow start and trailed Logansport 10-7 after one quarter of play before responding in a big way over the next two quarters. Led by Terris Evans and K.J. Jones, the Bears outscored the Tigers 21-13 in the second quarter and 16-7 in the third quarter for a 44-30 lead.

Evans led the Bears with 16 points and Jones finished with 10 points.

Block (12-11, 7-2) plays St. Mary’s High School 7:30 p.m. Thursday at home.

Avoyelles Charter 43,

Monterey 35 (girls)

MONTEREY —Monterey High School had an opportunity to move into a tie for first place in LHSAA District 5-B, but Avoyelles Charter School made sure that would not happen. The Lady Vikings took a 43-35 win to wrap up the district title Tuesday night.

Sydney Woodruff was the only Monterey player to score in double figures with 15 points.

The Lady Wolves (19-10, 6-2) play Epps at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

Logansport 38, Block 37 (girls)

LOGANSPORT, La. —

Block had a 10-point halftime lead, but the Lady Bears could not keep the momentum going after the break and lost to Logansport 38-37 in and LHSAA District 3-1A game.

LaKisica Bowman led Block with 10 points and Cintina Green had seven points.

The Lady Bears (10-13, 3-6) host district rival St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. Thursday.
