PREP ROUNDUP: Natchez girls suffer loss to Jim Hill

JACKSON — The fourth quarter proved to be the undoing for the MHSAA Class 5A Natchez High Lady Bulldogs as they gave up 27 points to Class 6A Jim Hill High School as the Lady Tigers rallied for a 54-45 win Friday night.

Natchez High appeared to be in control of the game, especially after outscoring Jim Hill in each of the first three quarters — on the road. The Lady Tigers came alive in a big way in the fourth quarter.

Kirdis Clark led the Lady Bulldogs with a game-high 17 points and Skylar Morgan finished with 10 points. Natchez High will play 7 p.m. Tuesday against Brookhaven High School in the first round of the MHSAA Region 6-5A Tournament that NHS is hosting.

The Lady Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed and the Lady Panthers are the No. 4 seed.

Wilkinson County 63,

Wesson 61

WOODVILLE — Led by Travion Jones, Ja’Quorias Stewart and Desmond Hunter, the Wilkinson County High School Wildcats held on for a 63-61 win over the Wesson High School Cobras in an MHSAA Region 7-3A game Friday night.

Jones led the Wildcats with 19 points while Stewart had 17 points and Hunter chipped in with 11 points. Wilkinson County (15-7, 6-4) will either be the No. 2 or No. 3 seed in next week’s Region 7-3A Tournament at Wesson High School.

The Wildcats and Hazlehurst each went 6-4 in region play.

Jim Hill 68,

Natchez High 42 (boys)

JACKSON — Jon Washington led Jim Hill High School with a game-high 13 points and John Knight III had 12 points as the Tigers defeated the Natchez High School Bulldogs 68-42 Friday night.

Natchez High played well in the first quarter and was tied with Jim Hill at 15-15 at the end of the quarter.

The Tigers took control of the game in the second and third quarters to put the game away.

“Overall, they played with a little more energy than we did,” Bulldogs head coach David Haywood said. “I don’t know if (the players) were looking forward to the (region) tournament next week.”

Ty’Ran Newman led Natchez High with nine points. The Bulldogs will play at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday against No. 1 seed Provine High School in the first round of the MHSAA Region 6-5A Tournament. The Bulldogs are the No. 4 seed and will serve as the host school.

Peabody 86, Vidalia 28 (girls)

ALEXANDRIA, La. — The Vidalia Lady Vikings saw Peabody High School put up more points in one quarter – 31 in the fourth quarter – then they had for the entire game as the Lady Warhorses cruised to an 86-28 win Friday night in an LHSAA District 3-3A game.

Jalyn Smith led Vidalia with 12 points and Angel Heckard added nine points.

The Lady Vikings finished with an overall record of 7-20 and a district record of 1-13.
