NATCHEZ — Tyler Wilson threw a complete game and recorded 11 strikeouts for Adams County Christian School Wednesday night, leading the Rebels a 16-1 win over Trinity Episcopal.

“We’ve been struggling, our pitching has been bad,” Wilson said. “I was just trying to make up for what we did wrong.”

Wilson managed to do just that. The bulking left-handed hurler struck out 11 batters and allowed zero earned runs in his strong outing.

“Trinity has a bunch of young kids out there, which is good for their future,” ACCS coach Matthew Freeman said. “We just wanted to put some pressure on their young guys and force some errors. It’s still impressive that they’re out there competing with high school kids.”

Adams County took an early lead in the top of the first. Devin Grey started the game with a base hit and tested Trinity catcher Trey Gill’s arm to advance into scoring position. He later scored on an error.

Trinity answered in the bottom of the frame after Gill got a one-out base hit and scored on a passed ball for its lone score of the game.

ACCS managed to piece together a five-run fourth inning and then tacked on six more in the seventh.

Trinity starting pitcher Cole Switzer lasted four innings and struck out seven batters.

“Cole Switzer was battling, and he was fighting up there,” Trinity coach Elliot Meng said. “Our catcher is an eighth grader. He wants to be back there and we’re working with him.”

Wilson surrendered just three hits in the game. He said he just kept pounding the zone and compiling the innings, and eventually managed to find his groove.

“He came out here and he worked ahead and threw a lot of strikes for us,” Freeman said. “He was able to compete well (Wednesday).”

At the plate, Wilson was equally effectice, recording three hits and an RBI. Brady Bean had two RBIs on one hit for Adams County, and Steven Porter had one RBI with two singles and a double.

Adams County’s sweep of Trinity makes back-to-back series sweeps for the Rebels, after losing their opening game to Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

Adams County travels to play Riverfield today.

“We’ll get a good test there,” Freeman said. “They’re normally a pretty good ball club. Just trying to stay hot.”

Trinity will play Tensas Academy Wednesday.
