ALEXANDRIA, La. — Jania Burns pitched a no-hitter and Kaitlin Dooley had a home run to remember as the Delta Charter School Lady School defeated the Avoyelles High School Lady Mustangs 17-1 in three innings Friday afternoon at the Cenla Classic Tournament.

Burns went all three innings, striking out four batters and walking just one, which head coach Jeannie Beach said was a big improvement.

“She did good. We were just trying to focus on three pitches — her curveball, dropball and fastball. We didn’t want to throw too many pitches. We let the defense work,” Beach said.

After plating 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning, the Lady Storm added three runs in the bottom of the second and ended the game on Dooley’s three-run home run in the bottom of the third. The blast marked Dooley’s first home run to clear the fences.

Delta Charter had just six hits in the game.

“Their pitcher was struggling. We had 10 walks. I can’t complain if they were watching the ball,” Beach said.

Delta Charter (2-2) continues play at the Cenla Classic Tournament at 3 p.m. today against Oak Hill High School and again at 7 p.m. against Georgetown High School.
