Alcorn State will incur Level Three penalties from the NCAA which could also restrict allowed practice time and impose recruiting sanctions.

APR scales the retention rates of a university’s student athletes from a 0 to 1,000 scale. The NCAA requires a multi-year APR score of at least 930 to be eligible for postseason play across all sports. Student athletes who receive athletic-related financial aid receive one point for staying in school and one point for remaining academically eligible. That total is divided by the amount of possible points and multiplied by 1,000 and averaged over four years to determine a total.

Two other SWAC universities have at least one ineligible team. Alabama State men’s tennis is academically ineligible for postseason play. Southern University programs ineligible for post season play include baseball, men’s cross country, men’s track, football, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, women’s track, softball and women’s volleyball.
