NATCHEZ — A memorial service for Roger “Hot” Hulon Idom, 73, who died Monday, April 25, 2016, at Merit Health Natchez, will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Moose Lodge in Natchez.

Arrangements are under the direction of Riverwood Family Funeral Service in Brookhaven.

Mr. Idom was born April 20, 1943, in Columbia, the son of Hugh Loper Idom and Lillian Rogers Idom.

His family moved to Natchez around 1950, where his father owned and operated the Union Center Pool Hall on Main Street for a number of years. He was a lifelong resident of Natchez and known by most of the residents of the area. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Natchez Lodge for approximately 50 years and an avid bingo player for several nights a week at the lodge. He was also a league bowler for a number of years.

Mr. Idom was a 1961 graduate of Washington High School, the last class to attend and graduate from the school prior to its consolidation into the local public school system. He was a tackle on the Washington football team and feared by many opponents due to his size. His outgoing personality included him in most conversations, like it or not, he was usually the center of attention and offering some of his latest jokes to spark the conversation. He also served in the Mississippi National Guard for six years.

Mr. Idom was the original owner of Royal Flush septic service and also had worked for Burchfield Amusements for a number of years servicing their customers. He enjoyed traveling in recent years with his brother throughout the South while transporting automobiles.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his former wife, Joan Richardson; three brothers-in-law, Floyd Arnold, James K. Polk and James C. Freeman; and one nephew, James Dale Freeman.

Survivors include four siblings, Anna Belle Arnold of Madison, Mary Lorraine Polk of Pascagoula, Jo Doris Freeman of Brandon and James Ronnie Idom and wife, Cindy, of Baton Rouge and a number of nieces and nephews.
