COLUMBUS — Sam Parker twirled a shutout Wednesday to help lift Cathedral High School past Heritage Academy 6-0 in the second round of the MAIS AAA baseball playoffs.

The senior standout recorded nine strikeouts and allowed just three hits in earning the win.

“Sam was very good (Wednesday),” Cathedral coach Andrew Beesley said. “We were able to string some hits in the middle of the game and give him some run support.”

The Green Wave scored two runs in each of the third and fourth innings and added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Andrew Beesley, Zach Flattman, Brock Farmer and Jacob Jenkins each recorded two hits for Cathedral, with Andrew and Flattman each driving in a pair of runs. Flatmann also had a homer.

The win gives the Green Wave (20-3) a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

“Just the mindset of going on the road and being up 1-0 is big,” Beesley said. “Now they have to come to our place and win two games. Hopfully we can come out and make some plays early to get them out of their small-ball approach.”

Game 2 is slated for 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Chester-Willis Field. Game 3 will follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 2, if necessary.
