NATCHEZ — Natchez Fire Department officials are investigating a fire on Carriage Lane that left a residence destroyed early Friday morning.

Natchez Fire Battalion Chief Leland Rymer said the homeowner was not at home at the time of the fire, which was reported by a passer-by.

The two-story structure was fully involved in the fire by the time the Natchez Fire Department even received the call, Rymer said, and was a total loss.

The fire is still under investigation.
