MOBILE, Ala. — Services for William Henry “Bill” Harris, 86, of Mobile, Ala., who died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at his residence surrounded by his family, will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Road, Mobile, AL 36619.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home.
Mr. Harris was born May 8, 1930, in Dothan, Ala., the son of Earl Musette Woodham Harris and Johnnie Green Harris.
After graduating from Bay County High School in Panama City, Fla., he worked for International Paper before he attended Auburn University (then Alabama Polytechnic Institute,) where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in 1956. Upon graduation, he accepted an offer to continue his career with International Paper in Pine Bluff, Ark.
On July 8, 1956, William met the delight of his life, his wife, Henrietta, at Southside Baptist Church in Pine Bluff. They were married at the same church April 28, 1957. After a very rewarding career with International Paper, which included eight moves to seven different cities, William retired in Mobile as the director of corporate engineering. He has resided in Mobile with his wife since retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Patricia Ann Kirkland.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Henrietta Culpepper Harris; three children, Lee Ann Harris of Wetumpka, Ala., William David Harris and wife, Nathalie Owen Harris, and their children, William David Harris Jr. and Daniel Bradford Harris, of Natchez and James Richard Harris of Baton Rouge; and one brother, Johnny Moody Harris of Panama City, Fla.
The Williams family extends their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of Providence Hospital, Sr. Joseph’s Hospice and Visiting Angels for their tireless assistance.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the American Cancer Society.
