Man charged with attempted murder in connection with November shooting

NATCHEZ — A Natchez man was charged with attempted murder Thursday for reportedly shooting another man in November 2016 on Oak Hill Drive.

Natchez Police Chief Daniel White said Michael S. Simpson, 34, 1 Gloucester Court, was arrested Thursday for the Nov. 29, 2016, incident.

White said the victim reported that he was walking in the 200 block of Oak Hill Drive when someone began shooting at him. The victim was struck in the upper thigh and lower leg and returned fire.

Simpson reportedly fired first and was shot in the leg and buttocks when the victim returned fired.

White said the victim shot in self-defense and will not be charged in the incident.

Simpson was being held Thursday in the Natchez City Jail without a bond.
