Sicily Island, Block earn playoff wins

The Sicily Island Tigers had no trouble taking care of the Oberlin Tigers 79-24 Friday night in the bi-district round of the LHSAA Class 1A State Playoffs.

Sicily Island, the No. 1 seed, jumped out to a 23-6 lead over No. 32 seed and winless Oberlin by the end of the first quarter and continued to add to its lead. Devion Dunbar scored 22 points and Jameon Tolliver had 16 points to lead four players in double figures.

The win sets up a showdown between Sicily Island (28-6) and No. 17 seed Block next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Block in a regional round game.

Block 67, Oak Grove 56

OAK GROVE, La. — The Block High School Bears defeated the Oak Grove Tigers 67-56 Friday night in the bi-district round of the LHSAA Class 1A State Playoffs.

Block (13-14) will play host to No. 1 seed Sicily Island in a regional round game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
