The Monterey Wolves made the trek across the state and upset No. 13 seed Stanley Panthers 12-6 Tuesday afternoon in the bi-district round of the LHSAA Class B Playoffs.

Matthew Womack went the distance to pick up the win for No. 20 seed Monterey.

“I thought he threw the ball well. He mixed up his pitches. He kept the ball down, and we played good defense behind him,” Wolves coach Eric Richard said. “I think we had just one error. It was a good, solid team effort.”

In addition to the effort on the mound by Womack and overall sharpness by the defense, Monterey’s bats were also instrumental in the win.

“We got big hits when we needed them. We strung hits together, and we got clutch two-out hits,” Richard said. “We hit up and down the lineup.”

Monterey (6-15) will be on the road again at 5 p.m. Friday when it travels to Hineston, La. for a regional round match-up with No. 4 seed Oak Hill.
