Cathedral tennis claims 2nd in district

Cathedral High School had three matches advance Thursday to MAIS-AAA South State tennis play during its district tournament hosted by Laurel Christian.

Both No. 1 and No. 2 girls doubles won their district matches after receiving a first-round bye in the tournament, defeating their semifinal and final opponent to move on.

No. 1 Emma Hogue and Marty Lewis defeated Simpson Academy, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 in their final match. No. 2 Natalie Fletcher and Grace Anne White took down Laurel Christian in their final match, 6-2, 6-2.

Also advancing will be No. 2 singles Chase Brooks.

Brooks defeated Columbia Academy in his semifinal match, 6-1, 6-3, and was defeated in his final match.

Each Green Wave team, boys and girls, place second in the overall tournament.

South State play will be Tuesday at Jones Community College.
