Suspect in burglaries arrested

NATCHEZ —The Natchez man wanted for a Mississippi Department of Corrections violation and suspected in multiple area burglaries was apprehended Saturday evening.

Natchez Interim Police Chief Shawn T. King said officers took Jonquil T. Jackson into custody at approximately 8 p.m. Saturday on Canal Street near Briel Avenue.

King said Jackson was identified as a passenger in a vehicle downtown and followed until officer could take Jackson into custody.

King credited Sgt. Felicia Fleming and the E911 dispatchers for helping with Jackson’s arrest.

Jackson is being held on a MDOC warrant. King said his officers will continue to investigate whether Jackson is linked to a series of vehicle burglaries and pursue any charges if warranted.

King said he did not know the details of the MDOC warrant for Jackson’s arrest.
