Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten said at approximately 5:45 p.m. a deputy was flagged down near Burger King on U.S. 61 by a witness who said she allegedly observed a driver in a white Chevrolet Impala shoot at another vehicle.

Shortly after the report, Patten said the suspected vehicle was spotted on North Palestine Road near Lee Parker Road. When a deputy initiated lights and sirens, the suspect fled down Palestine Road onto Liberty Road.

The suspect fled west on Liberty Road and turned onto LaGrange Road. From LaGrange Road, the suspect turned onto Greenfield Road, Southwind Road and finally Firetower Road before heading north on U.S. 61 toward Natchez.

Patten said the chase was called off as the suspect approached the city as the speed of the vehicle was in excess of 100 miles per hour.

Natchez Police Department made contact with Smith on Oakwood Lane and found the vehicle at Village Green Apartments.

Sheriff’s deputies arrested Smith and Patten said the suspect could face additional charges from Natchez Police Department.

Smith was in jail Tuesday night with no bond set.
