Natchez Little Theatre, Mississippi’s oldest community theatre and a charitable nonprofit organization, celebrating 85 years of entertainment, is proud to present for their next to last production of the 69th Season an adaption of the Alfred Hitchcock film, “The 39 Steps,” Nov. 9-12 at Natchez Little Theatre at 319 Linton Ave. at Maple Street in historic Natchez.

Directed by myself with set design and construction by Jennifer Rosso, this uniquely American adaption turns the classic film into a hilarious raucous comedy!

Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have “The 39 Steps,” a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theater.  Packed with nonstop laughs, over 150 zany characters played by a cast of six, an onstage helicopter crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and some good old-fashioned romance, “The 39 Steps” takes you from 1960s Cold War New York City, up the Hudson River, across the Tappan Zee Bridge to the remote Adirondack Mountains near the Canadian border and then back to Broadway.

In “The 39 Steps,” a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick eastern European accent at a Broadway theatre who says she’s a spy.  When he takes her home, she is murdered.  Soon, a mysterious organization called “The 39 Steps” is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in death-defying finale.  A riotous blend of virtuoso performances and wildly inventive stagecraft, “The 39 Steps” amounts to an unforgettable evening of pure pleasure!

The creative cast stars Stacey Carden, award winning NLT veteran actor, as the lead male character/fugitive fleeing “The 39 Steps” across New York.  Katie Adams, who made her NLT debut this season as Morticia Addams in “The Addams Family,” is featured as three femme fatales who become involved with the fugitive.  Devin Arnold, Michael Ware, Derek Saxon and Judy Wiggins play all the other characters in the show which include heroes, villains, men, women and children with hilarious results!

Andrea Cater served as my assistant director and along with Lacie Arnold stage manage the production.  NLT’s artistic and executive director, Layne Taylor, designed and runs the lights and sound effects for the show.

“The 39 Steps” runs at 7 :30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and closes at 2 p.m. on Sunday.  All tickets for non-members of NLT are $15 and should be reserved in advance by calling Natchez Little Theatre at 601.442.2233 or toll free at 877.440.2233 or you can securely purchase your tickets in advance at natcheztheatre.org.

We look forward to seeing you at Natchez Little Theatre!
