Natchez High grabs two wins over Wilkinson County

After a sluggish first quarter, the Natchez High School Lady Bulldogs dominated the next two quarters and never looked back as they defeated the Wilkinson County High School Lady Wildcats 58-21 Tuesday night.

Both teams struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the first quarter, which ended with Natchez High leading just 10-6. Then the Lady Bulldogs took over on both ends of the court as they outscored Wilkinson County 15-3 in the second quarter and 24-2 in the third quarter for a 49-11 advantage.

Kelsey McNeal led Natchez High (4-1) with a game-high 15 points while Terries Smith added 11 points and Candi Gray scored 10 points. The Lady Bulldogs host Ferriday High School at 6 p.m. Friday.

Henreneccia Turner finished with 10 points to lead Wilkinson County (no record available). The Lady Wildcats don’t play again until Friday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. when they host Amite County High School.

Natchez High boys 69, Wilkinson County 30

NATCHEZ — Izzy Holmes led a balanced scoring attack for Natchez High with 18 points as the Bulldogs cruised to a 69-30 win over the Wilkinson County Wildcats Tuesday night.

Natchez High had its way with Wilkinson County throughout the first three quarters of this game. The Bulldogs led the Wildcats 23-11 after one quarter of play and the proceeded to outscore the visitors from Woodville 23-8 in the second quarter for a 46-19 halftime lead and 14-2 in the third quarter for a 60-21 advantage.

Taylor Chasley finished with 10 points for Natchez High (4-1), which had eight players score at least five points. The Bulldogs host Ferriday at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Wilkinson County was led by Freddie Byrd III with 13 points. The Wildcats return to action on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. when they play at Amite County.
