Despite a win, the Ferriday High School Lady Trojans perhaps didn’t quite live up to their LHSAA Class 2A No. 3 seed Thursday night.

Zaniya Curry and Anasia Turner led Ferriday with 16 points each, but the Lady Trojans had to hold off the No. 30 seed Springfield High School Lady Bulldogs 56-43 in a bi-district round game played at Ferriday Junior High School.

Tierra Spurs added 11 points for the Lady Trojans, who jumped out to a 20-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

However, Ferriday coach Lisa Abron said too many missed shots as well as turnovers allowed Springfield (4-21) to stay in the game.

“Our press wasn’t as effective as it should have been. We kind of lost focus at the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter,” Abron said. “They have a very good post player. Once she got in foul trouble, we were able to score easier than at the beginning.”

The Lady Bulldogs trailed by just six points, 43-37 at the end of the third. However, Ferriday outscored Springfield 13-6 in the fourth quarter to advance to the next round.

“We had to fight to stay in it. They were a very scrappy team. We didn’t pull away until midway through the fourth quarter,” Abron said.

Ferriday (25-3) will play host to No. 14 seed Rosepine in the regional round. Rosepine defeated No. 19 seed DeQuincy 68-43 in its bi-district round game Thursday night.

Delta Charter 54, Homer 44
