Lorene M. Anderson Oct. 2, 1909 - May 1, 2000 CENTREVILLE - Services for Lorene M. Anderson, 90, of Centreville, who died Monday, May 1, 2000, at Centreville Health Care Center in Centreville, were held Wednesday at Newman Funeral Home Chapel where the Rev. Willis Cochran officiated. Burial was in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Centreville under the direction of Newman Funeral Home. She was a retired homemaker, a lifelong resident of Centreville and a member of Centreville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents, James and Odile Smith McCartney; husband, W.D. "Bill" Anderson; three brothers and one sister. Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn A. Cox of Zachary, La.; three sons, Scott Anderson of Natchez, Harry Anderson of Fayette and Will T. Anderson of Vicksburg; grandchildren, Karen Kirkland, Jerri Lynn Schnebelen; and a number of other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Malinda Smith July 11, 1954 - April 27, 2000 FERRIDAY, La. - Services for Malinda "Tiny" Smith, 45, of Las Vegas, formerly of Ferriday, La., who died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at her residence in Las Vegas, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rufus Baptist Church with the Rev. Shep Bethley officiating. Burial will be in the Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday. Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Smith was born July 11, 1954, in Ferriday, La., the daughter of Alfred Martin and Idell Williams Martin. She was a hotel housekeeper and she was a Baptist. Smith was preceded in death by her mother, Idell Williams Martin. Survivors include two children, Jerome and Monica Smith of Las Vegas; her father, Alfred Martin of Dallas, Texas; five brothers, James, Johnny, George and Cleveland, all of Las Vegas and Freddie of Houston, Texas; six sisters, Willie B., Mary and Irma, all of Ferriday, Jackie of Baton Rouge, La., Jerry and Minnie of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

 

James F. Whittington Sr. June 23, 1920 - May 2, 2000 Graveside services for James F. Whittington Sr., 79, of Natchez, who died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Billy Talbert officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation is from noon to 1:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Whittington was born June 23, 1920, in Cranfield, the son of Fieldon W. and Sarah Louise Eames Whittington. He retired in 1973 as a tire builder from Armstrong Tire and was a Protestant. Mr. Whittington was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Elizabeth Whittington; a son, Robert Paul Whittington; a daughter, Virginia Lynn Lance; his parents; and two sisters, Velma Martello and Annie Lee Barlow. Survivors include three daughters, Margie Wilson of Natchez, Judy Robinson of Monks Corner, S.C. and Dianne Wilson of Natchez; one son, James Whittington Jr. of Statesville, N.C.; two sisters, Thelma Baroni of Natchez and Lucille Steele of Vidalia, La.; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

 

Charles Cameron Bahin Jan. 29, 1917 - May 3, 2000 Services for Charles Cameron Bahin, 83, of Natchez, who died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Glenburney Nursing Center, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Laird Funeral Home with the Rev. Mitchell Cochran officiating. Burial will be in the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Bahin was born Jan. 29, 1917, in Natchez, the son of Walter and Bessie Holden Bahin. He was a retired City of Natchez Chief of Police and a Mississippi Highway Patrolman. He served as patrolman and chief of detectives. He also served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Bahin was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Jean "Tootsie" Bahin Thompson; grandson, Jeffery Hudnall; and wife, Jennie Rose Perrault Bahin. Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Bahin Hudnall of Vidalia, La. and Janine Bahin Haile of Natchez; three granddaughters, Lisa Hudnall Friedrichs of Petaluma, Calif., Natalie Thompson Arthur of Metarie, La. and Jennifer Thompson of Baton Rouge, La.; two grandsons, Andrew Haile of Jackson and Brandon Haile of Natchez; two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Jessica Friedrichs of Petaluma, Calif.; two great-grandsons, Weston and Will Arthur of Metarie; two nieces, Bess P. Cavin and Anne B. Henderson of Natchez; and a number of great-nephews and great-nieces.

 

Sara Elizabeth Demoss Wood Dec. 27, 1916 - May 3, 2000 ST. JOSEPH, La. - Services for Sara Elizabeth Demoss Wood, 83, of St. Joseph, who died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Robbins officiating. Burial will be in the Gwin Memorial Cemetery in Mangham, under the direction of Young's Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Wood was born Dec. 27, 1916, at Waverly Plantation, in Waverly, the daughter of James Watts DeMoss and Sara Dinkins DeMoss. She was and homemaker and a resident of St. Joseph for the past 57 years. She attended Louisiana Tech University in Ruston and taught 6th grade in Gilbert. She was also a member of St. Joseph Baptist Church. Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, James W. DeMoss Jr. Survivors include her husband, Sanford Hudson Wood of St. Joseph; two sons, Dr. Sanford Watts Wood, Ph.D. of Eunice and James Lee Wood of Tallulah, La.; three daughters, Emma Jane Corbett of Cathedral City, Calif., Sara Beth Fournet of St. Martinville and Frances "Bugs" Kilpatrick of Shreveport; 19 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Bart Wood, John Wood, Byron Fournet Jr., Matthew Fournet, Tim Corbett, Joe Kilpatrick, Eric Wood, George Gray, Curt Parish and Pollard Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will be the men's senior adult Sunday school class of St. Joseph Baptist Church and Bill Goodfellow.
