The Natchez Democrat
VIDALIA, La. - It has been a busy week for Vidalia's Jarrett
Hoffpauir.
On Friday night he graduated with 67 other seniors from Vidalia
High School, and today he will be the starting shortstop for the
East All-Stars in the Louisiana All-Classification All-Star game
in Alexandria.
The All-Star game is just the latest in a long line of awards
the Southern Mississippi signee has picked up since the Vikings
were eliminated in the 2A quarterfinals.
In the past week he has been honored as the All-Central Louisiana
Player of the Year for all classifications and the All-Northeast
Louisiana Player of the Year for all classifications.
He also followed in the footsteps of older brother Josh (1996)
by being selected as the Louisiana 2A State Player of the Year.
"He (Jarrett) is the only player besides his brother to
win the award at Vidalia," Vidalia head coach Johnny Lee
Hoffpauir said. "It is a pretty big honor for Jarrett. Usually
this award is given to a player on the state championship team."
While it may be true the selection usually goes to a player
from the state champs, it would have been hard for those making
the selection to overlook the numbers Jarrett Hoffpauir put up
during a senior season in which the Vikings matched a school record
for wins at 26-5.
He batted an amazing .646 and holds school career records with
32 home runs, 161 RBIs, 65 stolen bases and 87 extra base hits.
"I guess we will have to make some room to put these awards,"
Johnny Lee Hoffpauir said with a laugh.
