Percy Lee Blackmon Sr.
WINONA - Services for Percy Lee Blackmon Sr., will be at 11
a.m. Saturday at Ed Roberts Memorial Chapel, Roberts and Sons
Mortuary, with the Revs. Charles Biles and Cassandry Keys officiating.
Burial will be in the Jeff Chapel C.M.E. Church Cemetery.
Mr. Blackmon was born Nov. 4, 1925, in Leflore County, the
son of Thomas Lee "Ty George" and Lillie B. Purnell
Blackmon.
He was educated in Carroll County Public Schools, and at the
age of 12 he joined Jeff Chapel C.M.E. Church, where he served
diligently in many capacities including as a steward. He held
a variety of jobs, including farming.
Mr. Blackmon was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers,
Eugene "Gene" Blackmon and Charles William Blackmon.
Survivors include his wife, Leola Green Blackmon; 12 children,
Percy Lee Blackmon Jr. and his wife, Zenobia, of Montgomery, Ala.,
Earl Blackmon of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Lillie Blackmon Sanders and
her husband, Everett, of Natchez, Sheila Tyms Blackmon and her
husband, Lee, both of Natchez, William Ray Blackmon of Moorhead,
Hermon Blackmon of Black Hawk, Vera Westmoreland of Vallejo, Calif.,
Denise Blackmon-Imar and her husband, Benson, of Sugar Land, Texas,
Ruby Genice Blackmon Byrd and her husband, DeMorris, of Houston,
Sylvia Blackmon-Roberts and her husband, Anthony, of Lakeland,
Fla., Lydia Roberta Blackmon of Natchez, and Ola Blackmon-McBride
and her husband, James, of Knoxville, Tenn.; one brother, Charlie
Louis Blackmon and his wife, Emma, of Dallas; 20 grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; three daughters-in-law, Janice Blackmon,
Alison Blackmon and Lori Blackmon; two sisters-in-law, Corean
Stewart and Mary Hodges; three brothers-in-law, Johnny Green,
Guy Lee Green and Vance Green; and a number of nieces, nephews,
cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Wayne Branch, Jeffrey Blackmon,
Adrian Blackmon, Jared Blackmon, Eric Roberts and Joseph Imar.
Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Blackmon, Joe Louis Blackmon,
Frank Green, Percy Applewhite, Homer Griffin Jr., Bristol Johnson
and Robert Smith.
Vassar Dawson Boykin
Aug. 13, 1919 - Nov. 22, 2001
GLOSTER - Services for Vassar Dawson Boykin, 82, of Greenwell
Springs, La., who died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Lane Memorial
Hospital in Zachary, La., will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in
the chapel of Brown Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Toney and
Ed Jelks officiating.
Burial will be in Newhope Cemetery in Gloster under the direction
of the funeral home.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. until service
time Saturday at the funeral home.
Mrs. Boykin was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Amite County to L.H.
and Ruby Whittington Dawson.
She was a homemaker and a member of Crosby Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Boykin; her
parents; and six siblings, Mann Dawson, Eugene Dawson, Roger Dawson,
Wilmer Dawson, Lexia Whittington and Lazelle Boykin.
Survivors include nine children and their spouses, L.H. and
Charlotte Boykin of Morgan City, La., Gavin Boykin of Gloster,
Mary Carol and Joe Bonck of Central, La., Kermit and Diane Boykin
of Centreville, Retha Joy and Murray Toney of Gloster, Lenda and
George Freeman of Jonesboro, La., Veronica and Sidney Plaisance
of Ferriday, La., Scarlet and J.B. Collier of Greenwell Springs,
La., and Jerry Boykin of Gloster; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren;
one brother, Billy Dawson of Jackson; and two sisters, Evelyn
Havard of Baton Rouge, La., and Kathryn Thorton of Gloster.
Pallbearers will be Shannon Boykin, Dale Boykin, Kermie Boykin,
Kenny Boykin, Jeremy Boykin, Bennett Rogers, Clay Boykin, Patrick
Morrison and Cody Freeman.
Alma Jones Warner
May 1, 1916 - Nov. 20, 2001
PORT GIBSON - Services for Alma Jones Warner, 85, of Lorman,
who died Nov. 20, 2001, at her residence, will be held 11 a.m.
Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Robert Zawacki
officiating.
Burial will be in the cemetery of St. Joseph Catholic Church
under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today in the chapel
of the funeral home. A rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m. today
in the chapel.
Mrs. Warner was born May 1, 1916, in Jefferson County to Cleve
and Estella Augusta Jones.
She was educated through the ninth grade. She was a homemaker,
a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the BB&S
Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, two
sisters and one granddaughter.
Survivors include three sons, Walter Piazza of Harvey, La.,
Cleve Piazza of Port Gibson and Jimmy (Beulah) Jones of Houston;
six daughters, Estelle P. (Eddie) Orcutt of Lorman, Alma P. (Jack
D.) Lobrano of Centreville, Julia P. (E.J.) McQueen, Vincetine
P. Acker and Linda P. (Frank) Gardner, all of Harvey, La., Susan
P. (Wayne) Johnson of Chicago; 20 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
one sister, Ida Taylor of Santee, Calif.; one friend, Mattie Johnson
of Lorman; and a number of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Jack D. Lobrano Sr., Eddie Orcutt, J.D.
Lobrano, E.J. McQueen, Wayne Johnson and Frank Gardner.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe F. Thompson, Malcolm Walters
Sr., Billy Orcutt, J.C. Allen, Dr. Lamar McMillian Jr. and Dr.
Eugene Ferris.
Ella Nora Washington
Aug. 26, 1963 - Nov. 16, 2001
HARRISONBURG, La. - Services for Ella Nora Washington, 38,
of Harrisonburg, who died Friday, Nov. 16, 2001, at Natchez Regional
Medical Center, were held noon Thursday at Zion Hill Baptist Church
with the Rev. L. Hatten officiating.
Burial was in Harrisonburg under the direction of Davis Mortuary.
Mrs. Washington was born Aug. 26, 1963, in Harrisonburg.
She was a homemaker and a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Mary Taylor
April 12, 1921 - Nov. 19, 2001
WATERPROOF, La. - Services for Mary Taylor, 80, of Waterproof,
La., who died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital
in Alexandria will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Myrtle Grove
Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Good Samaritan Cemetery in Waterproof under
the direction of Concordia Funeral Home of Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Taylor was born April 12, 1921, in Waterproof to Edward
and Malinda Daniels Shelton.
She was a homemaker and a member of Myrtle Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George
Taylor; and one son, James Walter Taylor.
Survivors include six sons, George Taylor and Michael Taylor,
both of Waterproof, Fredrick (Sharon) Taylor, Glenn Taylor, Richie
Taylor and Julius (Chrstine) Taylor, all of Las Vegas; two daughters,
Linda (Leon) Henderson of Ferriday and Donna Jolly of Las Vegas;
39 grandchildren; one sister, Josephine Jessemy of New Orleans;
and a number of great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and other
relatives.
Minnie Coleman
Jan. 5, 1905 - Nov. 20, 2001
FRANKLIN COUNTY - Graveside services for Minnie Coleman, 96,
of Bude, who died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at Natchez Community
Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Old 16th Cemetery with
Pastor Dell Jordan officiating.
Burial will follow under the direction of George F. West Funeral
Home.
Visitation is from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Coleman was born Jan. 5, 1905, the daughter of Tom and
Ola Ford.
She was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church of Bude.
Survivors include one daughter, Luie Jackson; son-in-law, Melvin
Jackson of San Francisco; and a number of cousins.
Pallbearers will be friends of the family.
