Parish D.A.R.E. officer chosen treasurer of state association

VIDALIA - Concordia Parish Sheriff's deputy Uzella Frazier was recently elected to be the Louisiana D.A.R.E. Officers' Association treasurer.
D.A.R.E., or Drug Abuse Resistance Education, is a program in which law enforcement officers work in the school system to teach children about the dangers of drugs.
Frazier has worked as D.A.R.E. officer in the parish since 1999 and was a district representative for the state organization last year. She also works in the sheriff's office tax department.
"I think God just for being a D.A.R.E. officer, just for the chance to work with kids like this," Frazier said.
Frazier said she was surprised when she won at the organization's annual conference July 12-15.
"I am so excited about it," Frazier said. "It was an honor just to be nominated much less elected. I wanted to win, but I didn't expect to win."
Sheriff Randy Maxwell said Frazier has done a great job locally with the program.
"Frazier has earned this statewide recognition because of her hard work in the D.A.R.E. program starting in the classroom with Concordia's children and working up to the state level," Maxwell said.
Frazier's responsibilities as treasurer will include tracking the association's spending and paying bills in preparation for next year's conference in Baton Rouge.
