Joe Swoveland and Diane Hammers are all smiles as she tosses out candy during the Vidalia Christmas parade. Floats rolled down Carter Street Sunday afternoon.
Parade highlights weekend holiday events

VIDALIA — Santa waved and candy flew in Vidalia Sunday afternoon at the town’s annual Christmas parade.
People lined Carter Street to get a better view of snowmen and Santa Claus.
Vidalia resident Tammy Jones sat on the bed of a pickup with friends Tara and Robert Stanley watching the parade go by.
“I have a child in the parade,” Jones said. “I guess I’ve got kinfolk on every float. But kids or no kids on a float, we come every year. And the kids like the candy.”
Children and adults alike scrambled for candy as celebrities like Santa and Elvis spread the Christmas cheer. Christmas music blasted from floats and cars.
Lakeisha Bell’s niece marched in the band. But even if she hadn’t, Bell would have come. She’s a regular at the town’s holiday parade.
“I’m always here,” Bell said. “It’s a tradition.”
Evelyn and James Stigall came to see their granddaughter, Callie Dallalio, ride on one of the floats.
“We always come to the parade, just to enjoy it.” Evelyn Stigall said. “We get in the holiday spirit.”
The couple’s rat terrier, Molly, tagged along, too.
“She’ll run over you for a piece of candy,” James Stigall said, handing her a Tootsie Roll.
The Vidalia parade followed Saturday’s Ferriday parade.
Natchez will have its parade at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Did I read this right? Nunnery said that the floats should not have a Santa Claus. If I read this right, Where did Santa Claus come from on the float in the picture.

Go to the gallery and look at pictures 3 and 5. And here I was thinking that we was finally going to let the Kids know something Very Important about our standards as Children of God. Since a lot of the area ministers are not. I don't want to start on the parents. Because a large amount of you dropped the ball years ago. Some of the Ministers and the parents are on the boat Monday thru Saturday and when Sunday rolls around you are up in the Churches Holier than thou. Tell the Children the TRUTH about Christmas. Just because your parents didn't. Why do you want your children believing a lie. Just to find out later on in life that you also lied to them. Now we wonder why our Country is in such mess. Some of you say that you believe in the BIBLE. I have a question for you. DO YOU REALLY? If you say you are a christian. Then be JUST THAT. I know that most or all of you are wondering what I am talking about. So my thought to you is, until you truly give your Heart over the LORD. You shall all ways be in wonderment.

I do not do the santa thing at all. Christmas is very special to me as it is the time I celebrate the birth of my Savior. I do not have the right to condemn others for not seeing Christmas as I do. Condemning others for not seeing it will not help them. They are blinded until the spirit enters in. Praying for them may very well help.
Each and every day, I feel joy. Things may be incredibly bad, but my spirit is upheld! That is the thing I would like most to communicate to others, both churched and unchurched. I pray this Christmas that the world will find the true meaning of the season. When they find that, they will get to feel joy everyday also.

I think they said no Santa's on the floats because Santa alway's has his own float at the end of the parade. I too believe that Christmas is about the birth of Jesus. But I also can't see Christmas without a Santa. If you teach your children about the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ and they truly understand then you should have no fears about a little imagination. I Believe !!! I Believe!!!

That is correct bayoudipped. They just wanted to have one Santa (kinda like a Fanalie). No reason to get our Feathers in a ruffle.
I too am a Christian and love everything about Christmas. Especially the Emphasis on our Savour's Birth and feel as a Parent and Grandparent, it's my responsibility to teach my family the real "Reason for the Season". I love the Santa thing for Children because it shows children how to be jolly and give gifts. It's a very joyful time and everyone should be happy and show your love for one another.
You don't have to be a Scrugg to be a Christian, neither do we have to be so critical.

As Christians we have to be very careful, and there are new, deep undercurrents on the santa front. Hallmark channel recently ran a movie based up north in a factory town. The man of the house had recently lost job, the mom worked, and they had a young boy about 10 and young girl maybe 6. The little girl was the only one who could see a dark angel called Gideon. The man was killed in a bank robbery; the robber took off in his car with kids in back. Angel saved them. When they got home, Mom told them Dad is dead. Little girl sneaks out of house to find angel to make Dad come back. He said he knows who can help.....takes her to the North Pole to santa claus!!!!!! He is able to back up time and save her dad. An angel and santa!!!! At least the angel was dressed all in black, so we know he came from the prince of the world, satan.
We will no longer teach our grandchildren the myth of santa. We will teach them to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as that is the only way they will ever make it to Heaven. The gifts they receive and give will be reminders of the gift God gave us in the person of Christ.
On the subject of movies to look out for, the golden compass coming out now, says it is based on series of books similar to harry potter. It is based on teaching kids to become atheists..beware!!! The author who wrote harry potter said she never could achieve success until she turned her back on God, so maybe they are similar.
Our world is changing so fast and not for the good.

To as many that will receive this. Remember 2 Chron.7 verse 14 If the people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
This is to all of the Parents, Teachers, Government Employess , both elected and hired. From the White House, to the Poor House.
To you Ministers also. You So CALLED MINISTERS. Most of you, and I do mean MOST OF YOU have forgotten Ezekiel chapters 33 and 34.
This Country claim in GOD we Trust. But you are afraid to say or write anything about GOD, Because the ones that don't believe in him. Says not to. But let me remind you that Satan himself believe in Him and Fear him. ( JESUS ).
Now how many people will get mad at this?
When will you take a firm stand for ( JESUS )? Just as the ones on the other side stand for their God, or what ever they worship.
Oh Yeah to all of you that says the Old Testament does not pretain to Today. I have something for you out of the New Testament read Romans Chapter 1 verses 17 thru 28
