Ferriday girls and boys take wins

FERRIDAY — The Ferriday Lady Trojans had no problems with Sicily Island Thursday afternoon.
They won 58-16 in the Ferriday High School Invitational.
Ferriday kept Sicily Island scoreless in the second period to take a 27-4 lead at half time.
Ten players tallied points for the Lady Trojans with Jasmine Upchurch leading the team with 16 points.
“We were able to get everyone playing time,” Ferriday head coach Lisa Abron said.
Shaunisha Williams led Sicily Island with eight points followed by Angelica Branson with five.
The Lady Trojans will face the Tensas Parish Lady Panthers at 6:30 today.
Ferriday boys 61, Sicily Island 45
Sicily Island couldn’t find a way to slow down the Ferriday Trojans Thursday in the Ferriday High School Invitational.
The Trojans cruised to 61-45 win.
“It feels good to get a win,” Ferriday head coach K.G. Watkins said.
Led by DeMarco Lewis’ 21 points, the Trojans had four other players scored in double figures in the win.
Sicily Island did have a shining star.
Karlos Gary hit seven 3-pointers and led Sicily Island with 29 points.
“He was their main shooter,” Watkins said. “He shot from everywhere.”
Ferriday plays Tensas Parish today at 7:45 p.m. and face the Vidalia Vikings on Saturday at 7:45 p.m.
Today’s tournament action begins at 4 p.m. with the Vidalia girls taking on Tensas Parish. The boys game follows at 5:15. Ferriday will then face Tensas at 6:30 and 7:45.
