Hounds have tough time with Cougars

WINNSBORO — Huntington couldn’t match the Franklin Academy Cougars.

They gave the Hounds a 62-45 beating.

The Hounds were out scored 20-9 in the first period and 20-5 in the third period

Franklin Academy had two players combine for 43 points.

Chuck Bowie and Tyler Perry with 12 points each and Martez Tolliver with 11 led the Hounds in scoring.

Huntington falls to to 2-9 overall, 0-1 in district for the season.

Huntington girls 47, Franklin Academy 37

WINNSBORO — Phyllicia Woods’ double, double led the Huntington Lady Hounds to their first district win.

Huntington defeated the Franklin Academy Lady Cougars 47-37.

Woods, who had 24 points and 14 rebounds, led the Lady Hounds followed by Emilee Johns 11.

Leading scorer for the Lady Cougars was Katie Little with 24.

Huntington improves to 7-9, 1-0 in district.

Prairie View Academy girls 59,

Tensas Academy 54 (OT)

ST. JOSHEPH — The Tensas varsity girls (6-7) put a good fight against 19-0 Prairie View Academy.

“We gave them all they could handle,” Tensas Academy head coach Allen Crigler said.

Playing with only four players on the court, the Lady Chiefs fell 59-54 in overtime.

“We had four players foul out,” Crigler said. “We had to play overtime with only four on the court.”

The Lady Chiefs gave up a 16-10 lead in the second period to go into the half tied at 29.

The Lady Spartans came out firing in the third to out score Tensas Academy 16-9.

Tensas Academy rallied in the fourth to send the game into overtime.

“Prairie View hit some key free throws down the stretch,” Crigler said. “We are a good tean but have problems winning the close games.”

To be clear about the Tensas/Prairie View girls game, the Lady Chiefs played with four players for 12 seconds.
