Ferriday players get recognized for on field accomplishments

ferriday — The Louisiana Sports Writers Association recognized nine players from the 11-1 Ferriday Trojans for the Class 2A All-State Team.

“This was a great addition to a good season,” Ferriday head coach Freddie Harrison said. “These kids worked hard this year and they were recognized for it.”

Wide receiver Donrick Washington was the only player recognized for the first team.

“I’ve never had this type of honor before,” Washington said. “It feels great being recognized and know the hard work paid off.”

Washington caught 41 passes for 1,118 total yards and 15 touchdowns.

“I have to give credit to my quarterback Kendrick Harris and my coaches for believing in me and also my uncle Christopher Shepard for showing how to play football.”

Players receiving honorable mention were quarterback Harris (121 completeions for 1,842 yards passing, 976 yards rushing and 36 touchdowns); running back Matthew Smith (1,975 all purpose yards with 14 touchdowns); offensive linemen Terrell Gorham and Jerrell Hayes; defensive back Jeremy Kelly (six sacks, eight fourced fumbles and 180 total tackles); linebacker Ronald Lawson and defensive linemen Omar Washington and Antrion Walker (seven sacks, four forced fumbles and 125 total tackles).

“We always knew we had All-State players,” Harris said. “We just had to prove it. This is a good feeling for everyone selected. We don’t have too many players from around here get these type of awards.”
